Michael Springer has been the organist at First United Protestant Church since 1978. His teaching career as a music educator spanned from 1981-2002 in the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education, then from 2002-2011 at the Kamehameha Schools, Keaʻau Campus. In 2000, Michael was selected as the Hawaiʻi District Teacher of the Year. He also maintains a private music studio teaching piano, and well as providing piano accompaniment services for the Haili Church Choir since 1976, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church as a staff organist since 2007. Throughout his career, Michael has accompanied and directed singers, instrumental & choral ensembles, community theatre production pit orchestras, and composed and arranged numerous musical selections. Since retiring from the classroom in 2011, Michael has been busy assisting pipe organ restoration and expansion projects at Haili Church and First United Protestant Church. Although First United Protestant Church is now without a choir program, Michael is hoping to assist the church in planning for the re-establishment of the choir program.
